His passion for tobacco endured through war, political upheaval, and exile. After the rise of communism in Cuba, Melanio’s grandson Gilberto Oliva set out on a global journey to preserve the Cuban spirit of cigar-making. His search led him through the Americas and Asia, until he finally found his ideal soil in Nicaragua.

Today, the Oliva family stands as one of Nicaragua’s premier growers of Cuban-seed tobacco—bringing a bold, authentic flavor to every cigar.
